Frequently asked questions

Does the start date count as a business day?
No. Counting starts on the next day (or the day before when you count backward), so 1 business day after a Monday is the Tuesday.
Are state holidays included?
No. Only the 11 US federal holidays are skipped, so check your own calendar if state, local or company holidays apply to you.
How are weekends handled?
Saturdays and Sundays are always skipped. The calendar-day figure includes them, which is why it is larger than the number of business days.
Can I count backward?
Yes. Choose Subtract to find the date a number of business days before your start date, for example to work back from a deadline.
What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?
It is observed on the Friday before if it falls on a Saturday, or the Monday after if it falls on a Sunday. The calculator skips that observed weekday, because that is the day federal offices close.
