Why three-paycheck months happen
Most months are 30 or 31 days long, but two paychecks only cover 28 days. The extra two or three days build up, and every so often a month starts close enough to a payday that a third one fits before the month ends. With 26 paydays spread over 12 months, two months a year get a third paycheck.
A year is 52 weeks plus one day (two in a leap year), so a 27th payday appears when the first payday is early enough. In 2026, that happens when the first payday is January 1, 2026. A 27-payday year has three months with three paychecks.
